OK, Maggot Brain? Without a doubt the strangest, trippiest, funkiest, most insane album I've ever heard, and I listen to Blodwyn Pig.
Firstly, the highlight of this album is it's title track. Maggot Brain is THE BEST SOLO I have ever heard, better than any of (dare I say it?) Hendrix's work. Think along the lines of 10 minutes 18 seconds of the most mind blowing trippy guitar playing. Those of you familiar with Funkadelic guitatist Eddie Hazel will know exactly where I'm coming from. It's so odd and surreal, yet so full of depth and emotion. You want a good 10 minutes? Roll a joint, whack this song on and smoke. You will enter new realms.
The rest of the album works on a funky style; a kind of heavy Motown on Yellow Sunshine. "Hit it and quit it" features heaps of vocal harmonies and crazy wah pedal beating. "Super Stupid" is what would happen if Led Zeppelin met James Brown. GET THIS ALBUM! I don't see how an album THIS GOOD never broke into the mainstream. Highly Recommended.

Comment: MAGGOT BRAIN IS AMAZING. WHEN THE SONG WAS WRITTEN GEORGE CLINTON TOLD EDDIE HAZEL TO THINK OF THE SADDEST THING HE COULD THINK OF. HE THOUGHT THE SADDEST THING WOULD BE HIS MOTHER DYING. THEN TOLD HIM TO THINK OF THE HAPPIEST THING. I DONT KNOW WHAT THE HAPPIEST THING WAS HE THOUGHT OF BUT WHAT A SONG. ITS FUNNY TO SEE JIMI AND EDDIES NAMES MENTIONED.I BELIEVE EDDIE HAZEL DIED IN THE EARLY 90''S OF INTERNAL BLEEDING FROM LIVER PROBLEMS AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF STARTING A BAND WITH JIMI''S BAND OF GYPSIES. EDDIE RELEASED A COUPLE OF SOLO ALBUM CALLED GAMES DAMES AND GUITAR THINGS AND CUS A COVER OF THE MOMMA AND THE POPPAS CALIFORNIA DREAMING AND THE BEATLES I WANT YOU(SHES SO HEAVY)

Comment: AMEN! I LOVE Maggot Brain and agree on its greatness! I discovered it a most unusual, yet idealic way, back in 1972. I was living in a huge old apartment building, across from the beach in Newport, RI. The apartment had no windows in the bedroom. Each day, the next door neighbors (who I didn''t meet unitl they were moving out) would play Maggot Brain, nice and loud.This meant that every day I was awakened in the darkness by this mysteriously fabulous music. It was Heavenly!! When they were moving and we met, I told of my deep appreciation and they rewarded with the album - which I still have. Since then, I have shared Maggot Brain with MANY friends, all my children, and - now- I''m gradually sharing it with the 10 grandchildren, too! Thanks for the wonderful memory!!!

Comment: that dude knew exactly what he was talking about, and i got put on to this album way before i started smoking( first heard my father''s band play Maggotbrain when i was like 12.) and i still felt like i was high lol . i got this album cause it is definetly black rock almost at its best,kid. but putting that all aside, whoever reads these two reviews, check out the album. i wouldnt neccessarily say better than hendrix ,although i almost put them in the same category: the only difference between them is that eddie was just a little funkier and a little harder than jimi was, while jimi was a bit blusier and more well,jimi lol cant describe that cat,man.
