Last Sunday, me (aged 16) and my dad (51) travelled down to eridge park in tonbridge wells, england, to see Jethro Tull's one and only UK gig this year. As soon as we arrived, I loved it. The overwhelming smell of hash, some old hairy dudes tripping off their faces, and Steve Miller's Greatest Hits booming over the tannoy made an atmosphere of which I just fitted into...something which never really happened before but there you go!
It was a picnic style gig, people lounging out whevever on the grass, and enjoying the general vibe. First out on the stage were Fairport wannabes, Mostly Autumn, who gave a delicious blend of folk, blues and rock. They were followed by the Hamsters, who are somewhat of a cult here in the UK, and played a blinding blues based set, featuring an amazing cover of "All along the Watchtower". Next up were The Stranglers, aging UK punks whose egos were much larger than their genetalia.
Finally, the almighty Tull emerged, giving a brain bendingly good set, featuring a lot of stuff from the Aqualung album which they'd nver played live. The gig finished at 10:30pm, and everyone left high and happy.
