Far Out, Man (1990)

Here's how not to make a movie: make a movie that gives hippies a bad image, and this 1990 movie Far Out, Man is that prime example. Starring Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame, this film is a total insult to hippies everywhere in which he plays a totally ungroomed and unbathed hippie who wished to relive his youth. Chong must've been really desperate to give us crap like this, given movies like Up in Smoke (1978) and Cheech & Chong's Next Movie (1980) were actually quite entertaining.

The acting on this film is totally atrocious, and the choice of actors leaves a lot to be desired. The film seems to involve Chong being totally stoned out of his mind as he travels across the country with this young lady who have kids of her own who rebel against the anti-establishment by acting square by being sqeaky clean and listening to Mozart. Their mother wants them to be stoners and listen to rock and roll. Seems like all of Tommy Chong's daughters, Rae Dawn Chong, Shelby Chong, and Paris Chong are all on this film, and their acting is horrible.

I saw this film on WGN and I was completely appalled. I have watched my share of hippie flicks that came out around the same time, like Flashback, which was way better than this. This movie is not only an insult to the hippie movement, but an insult to Tommy Chong who did much better. This movie is a must to avoid.

Comment: Viewpoint is correct. However, I was in the prick and was on set daily. if the friggin director (If he had not called it in) would have captured those moments and scenes (Like the time I ran over to Burger King to get the D and AD Whoppers) it would have been a hit. Just the waiting time with this group was an erxperience I will never forget!

Comment: Have you seen this movie? Tommy is traveling with his son Paris, Shelby Chong is his wife not his daughter. I love this movie actually, so the acting is not great but the movie is very funny!
