At times I may act like a hippie, just like at times I may like a metalhead or a raver or a preppy or a whatever the hell I feel like at the moment persona. I think people who call themselves hippies are just "one of the crowd" and are too afraid to stand out and be something original.

(User Info ) | I believe each person has a right to be whoever they want to be. To call your self a hippy you need to define what a hippy is. I have been called a hippy all my life, I've also been classed as a grunger, a freak and a geek. To tell you the truth, I am none of these. If wearing baggy clothes makes me a grunger, so be it. If meditating and being creative with the gifts of nature makes me a hippy, then that's who I am. I don' t class myself as one thing as each of us is never truly part of one particular group.
Thank yourself if you are true to who you are because that is the way to true bliss. |

The hippies of yesterday (some) at least stood for idealistic things like peace, love, etc. Drugs were a part of the sub culture, of course, but not the main frame. Today, every long hair who smokes pot is called a hippie. I would say that I am a tree hugger then, not a hippie. Granola, if you will. |

Mostly, this means being myself, and sticking up for what I strongly believe in ( Peace, Love, Music, Personal Freedom...). Hobbies include mind-expansion, art of various forms and everyday activities that we often overlook, but somehow bring so much child-like happiness to our lives. In a lot of ways, these views and opinions relate to the Hippy way-of-life, but I simply consider myself Me...Struggling to remain that way in a world that seems bent on destroying individuality. |

(User Info ) | In my mind there is no such thing as a hippy. Hippy is just another label that society put on people that dress and act different so that they could stereotype them. If you want to call yourself a hippy and stereotype yourself you can, but I would much rather live life being me and not worrying about what I am. I would rather worry about what I stand for.

Anyway, I do not share most of the views that "hippies" do, but I absolutely LOVE tye dye. I am not a vegitarian, I do not do drugs, I do not use head bands. I am not saying that hippies like tye dye, do drugs, where headbands, and are vegitarians.
I am not a hippie. BUT - I like to consider myself a hippie because I think it is kewlio... see, i dont use "groovy," although "groovy" is an awesome word. I agree with hippies thoughts about nature and I adore every living thing, but I do not live my life as a hippie.

I feel that way too and I try to just be myself, but when I do, other people label me as a hippie. And to tell you the truth, I don't give a damn. If people feel like they gotta label me, I'd prefer to be labeled as a hippie then as anything else.

You know the whole Dean Martin and republicans forever stuff. I have held on to my values all these years. I have dedicated my life to helping people, loving the unlovable [by societies standards I work in the system in order to change it and am doing a damned good job. Hippies are not about how stoned you get or how many times you were arrested or what you wear or how long your hair is. It is about what is in your heart. The Peace,and Love values, everyone has value from the street people to the top. We all came from mother earth and to her we all return....Practice what you preach man, is all I can say today......I will always consider myself a Hippie...I did the drug thing, the India thing , lived on the street and in the mountians. I feel qualifyied to express my point of view... |

Well, I dislike the phoniness of the middle-class lifestyle, think that the most important thing in life is love and to be happy, have been seen wearing 'colourful clothes'. However, I don't live in my own community. I hypothesize this is a key part in being a hippie due to the freedoms that are disregarded and considered 'unorthodox' in a mainstream society. On the contrary, irregularity is seen as a characteristic of 'hippie-ness'….so I’m a half hippie??…No, I suppose not.
Well I guess I’m not a hippie, although, I am a nonconformist and unorthodox.
There still are hippies out there!! For all you non-believers out there, Christiania, in Denmark, is a Hippie community. They have a free community with a legal hash market.
Another comment of mine is that I believe in the usage of cannabis, although I disagree when people abuse it. It annoys me when people smoke it because they want to be mental.
Before you pass judgement on the load of bull-shit I have written, take into consideration that I’m 15. Okeys?

a category of social deviance. One who does not fit into the norm and is unique... yadda yadda
If someone says "im a hippie" and goes on trying to fit that stereotype arent they then fitting into a norm? They then go against the definition of a hippie. |

(User Info ) | | It is not "part of the crowd" at all. It's great having the hippy frame of mind. There's always tons of things to do being a hippy. You could participate in a protest against the upcoming war, be in a political rally, go to a drumfest in the mountains somewhere, chill along a river with a bunch of friends or new people wanting to meet just enjoying the scenery, go to concerts you like, and whatever else that would be fun to free your spirit. I would like to see the peace, love, understanding, and happiness be installed in everyone's minds so we all could get along in peace and harmony. This is a true hippy at heart speaking. |

I make my clothes and play the guitar. I'm a Libra so I'm very peaceful. I speak at anti war demonstrations. So then I pose the question to you, What is a hippie? I believe being a hippy in the 60's meant being yourself, whoever that may be, and loving no matter what. Peace be with us all as we are lead into this war unwillingly. |
