Actually, I apologize; I was trying to be funny with regards to the way you had handled the death penalty statement. And I agree with you on "legal murder", which is the death penalty.
And you are right, there are alot of soldiers around the world. It was soldiers like that that helped free your neck of the woods not so long ago (since we're discussing some history). But have you ever heard of the peace corp? Their soldiers in a sense.

Also I said we had free speech. I didn't say everyone liked what they had to say. As for Labor Unions, I come from a union family. My dad spent 30 years in one. Dislike of the union is a bit localized. I grew up in Michigan where unions are very strong and popular. Now I live in Colorado where they're not. That's where coming here would help. You hear the negative, but not the positive.
Student protest? Actually, the protests that seem to be going on now, though not the size of the Vietnam era have a greater diversity (e.g., old farts like me).
Finally as for liberty. No we did not invent it, but did help define it. To deny that is to deny history. Sadly, up until very recent (50s-60s), liberty was not equal among all our citizens. There are still cases of inequality, but believe me that is improving. Where I work, we have people from all corners of the world in both operations and management.
Many of us have heard of the French Revolution--an Napoleon. What is sad is that history and an understanding of our government is not a high educational priority in some areas. That is our loss.
Again I suggest you visit some time. But you need to set aside your preconceived notions of this country. They've been built on other people's opinions and not first hand experience. You may not like it here, but that has to come from your own experience.
