Costa Rica

"Costa Rica is a way cool place. There are many kind nature spirits there. Hey, every time someone greets you they say "Pura Vida" (pure life). Just that line shows you that the country is totally at peace."

"What can I say except for that this is the ultimate haven for anyone who has grasped peace and knows how to live life to the fullest.....Pura Vida (pure life) is not only the universal greeting, but it's a great substitute for "cool". (My bus driver Rodrigo used it that way). The people are very hip here. Incredible atmosphere......and the food is the best I've ever had!"

@ha ha you're a fucking idiot, I'm from CR and visit all the time, I get the funkiest of the funkiest so easily, and I read some ignorant comments up there ^^ we love americans if they really love costa rica, its for us to share man, costa rica is a very beautiful country with magic all over it. Just positive vibes, beer, women, sensimilla, beaches, mountains, good education system, everythings good here. It breaks my heart reading comments that aren't true at all and that we just say "Pura Vida" to make fun of americans thats bullshit, that's a saying, and a real tico should say it with pride. I'm gonna go but keep all that in mine, and farewell, ONE LOVE. Email me Dankganjadude@yahoo.com

I'm going to visit quepos next week.  Does anyone know of a reputable place/person to go for good quality weed--American medicinal grade.  How much is the going rate for such items so I don't get taken.  Are there any sting ops to watch out for...?  Are there places to stay away from like streets or beaches--I hear it's better to have a taxi driver or hotel/restaurant connection.  Is that true?

Hello all, I'm going to Costa Rica to get married in a very low key way.I know I'm giving into the tourism masses, but I've always wanted to go there. No family, and just a couple of friends. Problem is that every place we are looking at is ridiculous in terms of pricing. I understand this place is really bought up by Americans, and they charge the American price. But I want to avoid this silly price fixed consumerism mass and really enjoy the place. I'm well traveled but not in the south american region, so any advice especially in terms of where to go for hitting up a awsome canapy tour, level 5 white water rapids, which non-cool people to avoid or any good places to go for information please let me know. Maybe, I could give some advice on some places I've been IE: Italy, Greece, Japan (Okinawa included). Or I'll just send you the best home brew beer I have. Email me at nye_olator@hotmail.com

well, who would describe Costa Rica better than a tico (costarrican way to say costarrican), and one that smokes marijuana. Fisrt of all, dont bother looking for wrong spelling, gramar and that shit cause my first language is spanish, i bet not even half of you speak our tongue. Costa Rica trully is a natrual paradise, the beach is no further than 3 to 6 hours from San Jose (capital city) depending on wich coast you prefere, caribean or pacific. Lots of volcanos and mountains surround the central valley wich means its cool most of the time. Pura vida (Pure life) is the way we say "hello", "goodbye", "very good", "nice", "thank you", "cool", etc. We dont have an army wich is awesome, people are a lot more calm, but we do have a lot of crime and nicaraguan imigrants (without being xenophobic, they are usually the ones that commit crimes). Ticos are lazy, slow, and drink lots of beer, its normal to see people drunk here (drinking age is 18 but you can always get beer easyly even without being an adult). Prostitutes are almost legal, but dont waste your time and money. Marijuana: there are 3 main kinds of ganja in Costa Rica. The most common is called "cajeta" it comes from Colombia, smells like shit, tastes like shit, looks like shit, its very cheep (1000 colones (1,4$) for a gram) and gets you high, but you'll need to somke the whole gram in one joint, and makes you feel slow and disperse when the efect is gone. Jamaican wich is rare to find; unless you are in the caribean, but you must ask for it! dont expect locals to sell this to tourists when they can trick you with some shitty cajeta. Jamaican looks like cajeta but its greener and smells fresher and stronger, tastes fair and it gets you HIGH!!! but again, once the efect is gone you feel slow and lazy (like a tico!!!). It costs about 13000 colones an eight. (600 colones are 1$, make the math im lazy) And the last one is called "Cripy" that costs normally 30000 colones, thats the good weed! the only way to find it, is by knowing someone who sells it, knowing a Cripy dealer, someone who grows it, or growing it yourself! also driving to the Leon XIII (ghetto where you can buy LSD, cocaine, lots of weed, and many more) Cripy is comes in many known names, some are easier to find like California Orange or Bubble Gum, also New York Diesel, Purple Haze, Skunk and even Super Lemon Haze, depends on the dealer. You can aslo go shroom hunting!!! wich rocks!!! there are many places to find psilocibe cubensis aka MAGIC MoOoOoOshrooms like the fields of "Guapiles" or the hills of "Escazu" and "Guachipelin", but they are very common mostly anywhere where you see cows, wich is everywhere outside the city. Shrooms are free in Costa Rica cause noone sells them, they are the gift that mother nature gives to you to undertand the universe. Just go get them. Thats it for now, hope you enjoy your trip if you ever come to Costa Rica, just be positive and belive me, everything will go smooth and fine, pura vida.

I just came back from a trip to Costa Rica, we stayed in a village close to Jaco and spent some days in Quepos and Manuel Antonio. We bought pot three times in Jaco... the first two times, we were approached by dealers within an hour of walking around the main street of Jaco. We later learned that they all hang out down by the beach... there is a bar and grill on the left hand side of a side street going down to Jaco Beach just off the main street of Jaco, one street down from the Police Station. There were always multiple dealers hanging out right there at bench, and three or four will approach you. Knowing basic Spanish is helpful...all three of them had us follow them to their friend or apartment at another location. For safety reasons, don't go alone or go into their place with them. Try to convince them to let you wait for them somewhere else. We paid 40 000 Colones for half an ounce, that's about 80 bucks american. We asked for the best they had...it did the job but I have a new appreciation for Canadian pot. In Manuel Antonio and Quepos, we were approached many times throughout the few hours we were walking around. All of the little souvenir stores seem to sell pipes and there is a head shop in Jaco called 420 Gear where they sell some really nice hand made pipes and bongs.

hey, gang: after spending a month in a UK juvenile prison at 19, then being deported to US (my native soil), i don't carry any personal supply cross-border these days. we'll be staying in manuel antonio / quepos for a week in march...so i'll be trying to score a big bag of smoke upon arrival. i'm fairly savvy, well-traveled, and price-agnostic. as in, i'll pay whatever for the best stuff i can get...any tips? passionate enough to sail up a jungle river to find the most exotic plantations, but prefer to get my bag ASAP. thanks!

trying to find smokein costa rica.....first off, nothing but a bunch of fake rastas on the caribbean side.....puerto viejo is full of little marley wannabes{{...except they smoke cess..im talking dirst brown seaweed with pubic hairs in it......i laughes at both the tourists from the states and europe getting rolled at 10$ a gram.....my favorite thing to do here is go to my hotel room , break out my ounce of bubble hash from san francisco ) 8 differnt strains in one ball the size of a childs fist), smoke 1-20th of a gram and be done for the evening.....absolutely faded....i would play a game...id take my last hit, and see if i could hold it in long enough to get to the street and then blow it in the direction of some local kid....they have never seen anything like it...then on go on my way and tease the next town...from granada nicaragua to the corn islands down to puerto viejo and down to pnama...up to costa and over top the beach.....no im leaving and have 6 grams to smoke in 4 days...wish me luck

"this is the only nation in the world with no military" Mistaken! Hey, I know CR is great, but the author of this comment is wrong. Many countries around the world do not have a military - and surprise surprise - they usually don't have conflicts or wars either - just like Costa Rica. It's a lot like refusing to fight someone in high school - it almost always results in no fight and no violence (perhaps a little embarrassment though) A simple lesson for us all.

I'm looking for a place to live and would like some more detailed info about Costa Ricas 'social structure'. How's the economy? Enviroment? Anyone know about immigrating there? I can look at the CIA factbook but am interested in a more human perspective. How's the expenses compare to the US? What kind of culture does the government engage in? Thanks y'all...live the revolution. Choose your own adventure...etc.

Costa Rica is a tourist trap most basic hotel rooms are 20$ U.S. foreners have bought up most of the good spots and charge American prices. Why support a buch of rich foreners? Nicaragua and Hondorous are real central america 2$ U.S for a basic hotel room, and real Central America life. Costa Rica is good for a credit card hippy on a 5 day vacation. If you want to spend the winter on a hippy buget and live like a king or qween go north.

Spent lots of time bumming around Costa Rica a few summers ago. I can't wait to get back. The bus system is a great way to get around, meet people and practice your Espanol. Quepos on the Pacific coast is a hippie friendly village. Check out Manuel Antonio National Parque, but beware of the hungry crocodiles that hang out in the surf.
