Question: What's wrong with the world economic system?

The Answers:

The problem with the world economic system is greed.  Everyone in power has
it.  If everyone forgot about lining their pockets for one day and checked
their heart and soul the world would be a better place and fewer people
would be starving or living in poverty.

Frankly, it all depends on which perspective you want.  From my
prospective, as an American.  It is great.  We exploit the cheaper
labors of the third world and live like kings because of it.
Things should stay the same.

P.S.  I am a college student at Texas A & M.  I was in no way affiliated
with the "hippie" generation.

people simply care too much about the value of their material assets,
without pausing to consider whether or not their actions are actually
contributing to a happier, more rewarding life for themselves or others.
wake up people! there's more to life than how many sixteenths of a point
your investment portfolio rose or fell today. life is not carried out on
sheets of bonded paper, it happens within you. think about how your
actions make the world a better place. i try to. just my two cents.

The only thing wrong with it is the fact that it is based on capitalism.
It is ok to have a free and open market but the fact that it is based on
capitalism only gives money to those who already have it, and in
capitalism who has the money has the power, and we don't even know to
who are we giving power.

Yeah, it's indeed a good question.
Here's my answer: There's no problem at all. Oh, yeah... Everything works just fine, except a few million people, who are starving, because they can't buy food. Actually, where they live, there is no food, but only for the "high-life". Let's just think to Vietnam. The upper 10000 goes to ceremonies to worship their dead leader, and the rest of the people...
The people, who had money in the past, now have more.
And more, and more...
The problem is: people are spending money to useless things: cat-food (Wheeskass yukk), WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (why shouldn't you give $1.000.000.000 to a new unradareable supersonic rocket, if you just have that money). (Kosovo, Jugoslavia, blablabla...), etc...
I'm that lucky to live near to one, of the two upper mentioned places, and I see, how the government "takes" the decisions...
The other big problem is the politics. Here you can think about everything (...).
But I have written enough for today, thnx for keeping up this fine place on the net

We shouldn't use money !!Just bartering!!!!!!!!!

pop quiz folks who's the country that sticks there nose's into wars,
famine, and other countries business???  the answer is the U.S.  every
time the United States tries to help out other countries we tend to screw
ourselves up the ass.   This goes back to our founding fathers and the
Revolutionary war.   France helped us out by giving us supplies, money,
and soldiers.  After the war we consolidated  every one of the states
debts into one debt.  Tadaa!  Helloooo National Debt.  The only reason
why the we had a surplus of like 70 billion dollars was because of jimmy
Carter's and George Bush's terms in office.  Once Clinton gets that
surplus he wants to do something he thinks is good so it will change the
american peoples minds on how they feel about Lewinski goin' down on him
in the oval office.  Instead of doing what Clinton wants why don't we
put the money where it belongs by paying of the National Debt.  70
billion dollars won't do much on a tax break for the United States
peoples.

I think what is wrong with the economic system is the whole thing is
screwed up. What I mean man, is people who are in a specific field well
depending on what it is they get paid very little. Another thing is that
why do we have these people who have to have it all. I think that the
million airs should really think about people who are homeless, and those
who cannot afford good housing.  I think that those rich people should give
money to those people who really need it. You can write back. name Sue E.

The economic problem is just one of the many things due to the lack of love and the constant growing hunger for greed and time. To rush to speed and always have more is why we humans the so called intelligent species is abusing our resources not concerned, not even a thought flickering through those closed minds for the unborn children of tommorrow whose parents don't abuse the economy. Who love and treasure the mother earth who gave birth to us all. These people, these brothers and sisters of ours who can't find the time to grow their own crops sew their own clothes and recycle the paper they use are the fall of all of our economic environment.

There's nothing wrong with the world economic system, for two reasons: (1)
there is no such thing as "the world economic system"; it's a hodge-podge of
vastly different, ill-coordinated governments and victims -- some free, many
not; and (2) among the free, it is impossible to conceive their activities
as an organized "system."

Hippies were among the first to reject the "system" (i.e., obeying the law
and the cultural consensus expressed in legal form). Smoking pot is a simple
form of disobedience, but an important one. It takes you out of the Wonder
Bread sort of normalcy and connects your brain to the physicality of living.
Good place to start, if you want to see the world as it is, rather than as
the church and state insist it ought to be. Thus, hippies and scientists
have something in common: we like to learn by ourselves, for ourselves, and
of ourselves ('Why do I have fingers?' is a typical hippie question when
you're stoned).

Now, project this onto the world. Generals, footsoldiers and victims in
Congo and Nigeria are busy cutting each other's throats for material
resources, and they aren't much interested in contemplating why they have
fingers. Popes and bishops are busy devising new campaigns of
disinformation, so they can keep themselves in power over the ignorant. Wall
Street players are busy trying to guess where the price of XYZ derivative is
going to move one cent up or down, so they can make 1/100 of a penny on the
transaction. There are so many different people, engaged in so many
different conventions of behavior, that the "world economic system" can't
even get the news priorities right, from day to day. One day it's a sex
scandal in Washington, the next it's Richard Branson's balloon falling apart
before he takes off from Morocco.

Western governments have very little control over their own domestic
financial markets, much less "the world." Nor is it very convincing to argue
(like our Marxist brethren) that multinational corporations conspire to
impoverish everyone. Take a census of the business world, and you'll find
roughly 1 million "major" players, all of whom are busy competing with one
another for ideas, opportunities, short-term product cycles, you name it.

Hippies should know, better than anyone else, that our lives intersect in
myriad, unpredictable ways that no one chooses very clearly. If the world
economy was susceptible to being "systematized" -- trust me -- someone would
have done it by now. Hitler probably had the best shot at it and, of
necessity, failed in the attempt.

I ask myself nearly every day, "What's wrong with the world economic
system?" And every time I ask myself that, my mind explodes with ideas. The
main point, though, has to be money. Every single thing in our modern-day
world depends on money. You have to work to feed money into the economy. The
economy couldn't care less about you and your life, just as long as you are
making them money. This point in time, you cannot live away from the
economy. You have to live in their houses, travel down their roads, and buy
their products. Money has taken away our independence. Unfortunately, there
is not much to be done. The only solution is to raise our children with
descent morals so that they do not grow up to give in to this economy as
easily as 'they' would want.

I think the world economy never has been any good in the first place. There are too many bums controlling the economy. Too many people who want to sit back and enjoy the ride. Just loving to make fast money and not giving a shit about the the rest of the world. These pigs should be send to Kosovo to help clean places like this up.

The world economic system is too complex and too symbolic.  By this I
mean, money doesn't really mean anything anymore.  A person can make
huge sums of money by buying and selling these quasi-real shares or
quasi-real currencies on the stock market by calling a broker or typing
at their computer.  It's a big, stupid lottery that rewards rich people
for doing nothing.

And what's up with all these different currencies anyway.  We say we
have a world economy but we have these local currencies that fluctuate
in value every second of the day.  Let's have a world currency.  Better
yet, let's all barter as much as we can and make paper (or electronic)
money less of a factor in our lives.

I'll tell ya like it is man!  It's unbalanced. One guy is on welfare and
one's diggin' a ditch. It's usually the guy gettin' the handout
complainin'. If we'd all work together, it'd be easier on all of us.
We'd have more time for groovin' and less time for strugglin'.

It allows people to have more control and power than others.
It has space for greed.
Rather than joining togeather, we've chosen to eat or be eaten.

money. If everyone get over their obsession with money, things in the world
would be so much better.  There would be no poverty and no millionaires.
Money is material, and material possessions mean nothing, for they cannot
bring you happiness.

It's based on power.

The answer is multi-fold:  Big-business and huge government has gotten too
big and out of hand.  Churches need to be taxed as business.  The
distribution of wealth (20% of the people hold 80% of the wealth) needs to
be altered. And the people are just too greedy and snitchy.

It is simple, society has been adapted to serve the economic system,
instead of the economic system being adapted to serve society. We now
have a society which spends its time ensuring that a tiny number of
people become obscenely rich, and protecting their wealth regardless of
the cost to the 'weaker' members of society.

Richard Boesch

Too little freedom.....in most parts of the world, industry, hard work,
creativity, and thrift are punished by taxation while sloth is subsidized.
We hippies want to be left alone to live as we choose, and we should
encourage others to live as they choose.

the answer is that old rich white republican males have control of
everything

The answer to this question is quite simple.  The problem with the world
economic system is the fact that all that connects the countries of the
world is money.  That's the problem.  The economies of the world have become
the sole basis for how we judge countries.  Why don't people focus on the
diverse cultures and unique, rich spirits that all countries have developed
instead of how much money they possess?  Money really isn't all that
important and if the world leaders averted their attention to more important
issues, I would bet the world would achieve a lot more peace!

The entire world economy is based on GROWTH.  Unfortunately it is
population growth that will ultimately take us all out.  AIDS,
EBOLA and others are opportunistic - and they just love a crowd.

There needs to be a different perspective - we need to be spending
a very significant proportion of our resources on the Third
World - education, health, and basic infrastructure.  I believe that
we must raise all people intellectually to avoid going in circles
forever.

Then we need to stop making all these babies and take wonderful,
cherishing care of the ones we have.

Among the many things wrong with today's economics is that for the most part it
is a totalitarian instituition governed and controlled by (not counting small
business) the rich and educated of our society. The labor force does not have
full democratic control over that by which they produce. Unions, are for the
most part like school governments, they can bitch and bitch but in the end
they're never going to get all that they want. Another thing wrong is that
corporate economics and big business plays too much of a role in the lives of
people, even though technically its not supposed to since we have no say in
it. I don't want to go on and on here, but that's just a couple of ideas.
Peace,
Caylen

The problem with our economic system is MONEY. If we eliminated money
then we would eliminate the need for power. Which we all know is the
motive for greed and money = greed.  So by taking money away we
eliminate greed which would solve our economic problems.  Other
countries would follow our example and we would be living in a utopian
society. Imagine it living in a world were everyone worked for the
common good. Not for money.

We are not on the Gold standard, therefore faith in the Dollar/ yen/
whatever is on the decline. This has been true for a long enough time
that the whole system of economics which we live by is at the crumbling
point.

Jon Helmic

The predominantly capitalist economic system that prevails in the
western world, which is based on self-interest, promotes and encourages
greed, oppression and exploitation. Everybody wants to make money off the
back of others as cheaply as possible. God knows what we should do
instead. In fact, I think we should de-urbanise, revive farming and work
on a barter system. That way we can be self-sufficient and escape the
trappings of a society in which we can buy 1000 different kinds of
shoes.

credit cards  that is what is wrong with the system....no one has money, but
they sure have credit...take away credit and everybody lives with in their
means......of course i wouldn't be writing this and you wouldn't be reading
this cause i bet we both put these on credit terms...just a thought

The world it must be a one country, and that, isn´t a feeling of a
children, it´s the cry of a new generation.

Too much spent on war and stupid shit that kills the planet .

the world economic system is in trouble because everyday people like
ourselves are giving dollars to big monster corporations that are greedy
and murder people who are trying to stop them from mining the earth and
leaving big pools of poison behind.    we need to watch where we we give
our dollars.  we need to save our animals, land, dolphins, oceans, and
our children.  we need to give food to those that are hungry and shelter
to those who are cold.  stop living in a dream world and take care of
those in this awful reality.  reality may not be pretty but at least it
is real.

GREED! The global economy is fueled by greed. If the people that control
the money could learn to "live more simply, so that other people can
simply live" there would be enough for everyone.

I think the problem with the world's Economic
system is that there is one. If there were no money or selfish
tax collectors in this world people could learn to live for themselves
and not have there lives revolve around payday......

ahhhhhhhhhh you mean we still have an economic system?
Just an old hippie (yeah and I was there in the 60s for real)
That has stopped trying to adjust.
